Women’s health, fertility & pregnancy

Gynaecology has a long history in Chinese Medicine dating back to the Shang dynasty (1500-1000 BC). Today it continues to be used as a safe and effective way of managing a range of women’s health issues.

  • Gynaecological Issues

Menstrual issues can cause misery every month, putting life on hold. They can also be a cause of infertility and an indicator of other underlying health conditions.

Regular acupuncture can help improve the menstrual cycle, alleviate pain and increase the chances of conception. Common conditions seen in clinic are:

    • Painful periods

    • Heavy periods

    • Irregular periods

    • No periods

    • PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)

    • Endometriosis

  • Fertility

Trying to conceive can be an extremely stressful time whether trying naturally or through an assisted approach such as IUI or IVF.

During this time weekly acupuncture treatments are recommended to:

    • Regulate the menstrual cycle and encourage ovulation

    • Support the development of follicles and good quality eggs

    • Encourage blood flow to the uterus to support implantation of the embryo

    • Reduce the side effects of fertility drugs

    • Improve sperm health (men welcome too!)

    • Reduce stress levels which can hinder fertility

Treatment plans are tailored to each fertility patient. Pre and post embryo transfer treatments are also recommended for IVF patients.

  • Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings about great changes both physically and emotionally. Although it is often a time of great joy and hope, some worry and anxiety about the future can also arise.

The following pregnancy related conditions can be safely managed with acupuncture:

The following post-natal conditions can also be supported with acupuncture:

    • Persistent lochial discharge

    • Urinary problems

    • Constipation & haemorrhoids

    • Breast feeding issues

    • Depression

Although peri menopause (the phase leading up to menopause) and menopause are natural stages of a woman’s life they can bring with them unpleasant and sometimes debilitating symptoms. Acupuncture can support both physical and emotional issues allowing women to enter this next phase with confidence and renewed energy.

Typical peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms seen in clinic are:

    • Hot flushes/night sweats

    • Insomnia

    • Anxiety

    • Fatigue
